At the time of her disappearance, Anita was living in Toronto and experiencing mental health issues.  She had a history of leaving home for longer periods of time.  Anita always returned in the past.

Prior to leaving home and disappearing, Anita took her purse with her.  The purse was located on the shores of Lake Ontario.  According to media at the time, Anita’s purse was located on December 1, 1984 in the area of the Ashbridge’s Bay pier.
