When Kean left his home in Malaysia, he went to the United States where he attended school.  On March 2, 2016, he moved to Winnipeg for work.  His family and friends began to worry when they were unable to reach him for an extended period of time.

On April 2nd, 2016, police spoke with Kean at a local hotel in Kenora.  During the conversation Kean said that he was feeling stressed and missing his family.  He reported that was not feeling suicidal.

Kean’s vehicle was found parked on the shoulder of the highway near Sergeant Thomas Cooper bridge.  Neither his cell phone or his bank accounts have been active since his disappearance.
