On December 1st, 1919, Ambrose sold six theaters in his Grand chain for $1.7 million.   The following day, he met with his lawyer to finish details related to the deal.  The meeting was held at Ambrose’s office at the Grand Opera House, located at 11 Adelaide Street in Toronto.

According to some of the reports, Mrs. Small was taking an advance cheque to deposit at the bank.  Meanwhile, Ambrose left his office to celebrate the completion of the sale.  Upon leaving his office, Ambrose disappeared.

Two weeks passed before Ambrose was reported missing to police.  Ambrose has not been seen since.
