Joan Lawrence was last known to be in the Huntsville area in November 1998.  Her disappearance may be linked to those of Ralph Bernard Grant, John James Semple and John Leroy Crofts .

All four individuals were residents of the same retirement home.  The home took in vulnerable elderly persons who had lost touch with family members.  In July 2019, the Ontario Provincial Police announced  that the disappearances of all four residents were being treated as homicide cases.

Joan had been living on North Lancelot Road in Huntsville in a small shed on the property of the retirement home.  She had been living there for about 2 years.  According to police records, two days after being visited by police, Joan was moved to a van located approximately 600 metres away from the shed.
